Banyuwangi, 14 November 2024 – In collaboration with the Yayasan Pendidikan Adiluhung Nusantara (YPAN), the Banyuwangi Regency Government, and the Indonesian Regency Government Association (APKASI), a successful Mini English Camp titled “Ant System” was held for five selected schools in Banyuwangi. This four-day event, which took place from November 11 to 14, 2024, at the Aston Banyuwangi Hotel & Conference Center, aims to enhance teachers’ competencies in English instruction and foster a conducive English learning environment for students.
The event was inaugurated by Mr. Suratno, S.Pd, M.M., the Head of the Banyuwangi Education Office, who expressed, “The introduction of the ‘Ant System’ method is expected to create a supportive ecosystem that continually motivates and encourages students to improve their English language skills at school.”
Echoing this sentiment, Mr. Fais Bayu Wicaksono, the Chairman of YPAN Banyuwangi, highlighted the significance of mastering English in today’s globalized world. “English is the key to unlocking international opportunities. Therefore, through the ‘Ant System,’ we aim to present a creative, innovative, and easily applicable approach to English learning in schools,” he stated.
Ant System: Fostering Active English Use in Schools
The “Ant System” method itself is a dynamic approach to English language learning that emphasizes the use of English in real and enjoyable contexts. Over the course of four days, participants engaged in various activities, including a Training of Trainers (TOT) session, where they were trained to become English trainers using the “Ant System” methodology, empowering them to train other teachers in their respective schools. This was followed by a socialization of the Ant System Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), introducing participants to the standard processes for implementing the “Ant System.” Discussions and practical applications allowed participants to explore how to apply the “Ant System” in their schools and develop action plans.
With the Mini English Camp “Ant System,” there is hope for a significant improvement in the quality of English education in Banyuwangi. Teachers who have completed this training are expected to serve as role models, inspiring their colleagues to cultivate an English-speaking environment in schools.
